Dialogue – Pau Fabà Ubach

Dialogue – Pau Fabà Ubach

Two teachers of the Clot school, Brent and Samantha, are discussing how the new subject of “Use of Tech” should be.

Sam: I think something we cannot miss to teach in this course is the way students handle their privacy in the web.

Brent: Yes, I agree with you, but I believe that it is more important for them to know how to treat others in social media. People is often so disrespectful, and it is said that cyberbullying happens more commonly than physical bullying.

Sam: Of course, that is an important aspect to consider. However, at the end there will always be rude people in the internet. Studies have shown that people feel safer behind the screens, so they can insult or be ruder. In fact, that is a misconception because people and whatever they say are more exposed because everything stays registered.

Brent: Ok, now I understand what you are telling me. Actually, we could unite our thoughts in order to teach the students that they should be polite and respectful on the internet, not only because these are the values that our school fosters, but also because every word they write is exposed for anyone to see and could be used against them if needed.

Sam: Yes, that is what I was trying to say! Hahaha… Now that we have set the basis of the subject, why don’t we go for a coffee and continue debating?

Brent: Perfect, I’m so hungry by the way. I think I will have lunch as well. Let’s go!

J: Hi Will, time without seeing us, all good, and you?
W: meh ... I have found out things that do not make me very funny...
J: And that? For what is this?
W: * wrings his hands * you see, Janet, I've heard that you're constantly teasing David, is that true?
J: yes, but, he deserves it! He is a filthy otako! He doesn't shower and it smells bad! Also, he is a super bad person.
W: Janet, you are an abuser, you should stop, would you like to have that done to you? You should try talking to him; he sure is an interesting person.
J: What do you say? That's silly. He dislikes everyone because he is an idiot, he annoys you and then he gets angry when you return the joke, he defames everyone ... The fact that he is an otaku is the least ... What makes me one of the nerves is his way of being!
W: Is that really so?
J: I swear to you for everything you want.
W: I see ... In that case I suppose the problem is not yours. Thank you very much, Janet, and sorry for mistrusting you ... I'll talk to this guy David ... I'm going to tell him a couple of things.

Sarah: Chloe it's been some time since I started to be worried about how you treat some girls in the school.
Chloe: I don't know what are you talking about, maybe occasionally I'm rude with some nasty girl but it isn't worrying.-She snapped-
Sarah: I'm just telling this to you because you are important to me and this demeanour is unacceptable, you have already grasped two girls this week, and I won't be your friend anymore if you don't change.-She responded with her head hanging down-
Chloe: I don't understand why are you acting so dramatically, you have always been by my side!
Sarah: If I am a true friend I also have to talk with you about the difficult issues, please reconsider your behaviour.- She said with a concealer tone-
Chloe: For me is difficult to deal with this. By the way, I will try to be kinder to all of these girls, maybe I have been like that because of my low self-love.

Eric: Nice, I would talk with you about your behaviour with all classroom. You know me, I always say what I think whoever it is.

Johnny: What are you taking about?

Eric: You are been disrespectful and bulling classroom partners. Also laughing of them for the simple reason that you are bigger than them and you can injury them seriously. Honestly, I think you don’t want to acknowledge it, but you really have to for your own good and for the others.
I’m saying all this because we are friends, you know.

Johnny: Ok, I understand. It’s real that sometimes I don’t behave as a normal guy of my age. For our relationship and as my close friend I will try to moderate my behaviour for our own good and for the others, as you already said.

Eric: Thank you, Johnny! I’m sure that classroom partners will behave as well as you behave with them.

Johnny: Thanks Eric for the suggestion. And now, let’s gonna play soccer at the playground.
