Hello Sarah!

How is everything going in Australia? I hope it's ok.
I'm Roc, the boy who will spend some time there with you.

I can't wait to get there and start learning new things about your culture: I'm fascinated by your fauna and flora, I think Australia is one of my favorite places to visit, with its koalas and kangaroos. Hahahahaha just kidding.

Now seriously, I really want to see all the incredible landscapes and places that are in your country.
I heard that you are 17 years old, like me, are you currently studying? Now that I think about it, how does the educational system work there? Do they also make you repeat definitions and dates like parrots? How many things to talk about.

In any case, I hope we see each other soon, and that we can talk and learn from each other.
Give my regards to your parents, the Jones are very nice to let me stay there for a while.

XOXO

Topic: COMING TO AUSTRALIA!

Hello Sarah,

How are you? Today I’m staying at London and tomorrow at 7pm I’m arriving to Australia. I’m so excited to visit a wonderful country as yours!

I can’t wait to see the amazing skyline of your city, Sydney, the so-called “city of debts”, being one of the most expensive cities in the world (although I don’t need to worry as I am staying at your home).

It would be great to visit the opera, as well as I’ve heard that the cruise rides along the coastline are really enjoyable and they offer an overall look over the city. And of course, I can’t miss to mention the kangaroos. How far are they from Sydney? Is it possible to go for a ride with them?

Okay, jokes apart, I’m very concerned about the recent fires that your nation has had to deal with. I’m sure you’ll be able to explain me all the details and what’s the current situation.

Besides that, I would also be pleased to talk with you and your family the most as possible, in order to improve my few English skills (writing this email is being a major challenge).

I could never be grateful enough with you and your family for fostering me these few days. Thanks in advance for your hospitality!

Best wishes,

Pau.

P.S.: Don’t tell my parents, but it would be amazing to climb the Harbour Bridge, I know you love these risky things and I know there are organized tours. I’m into it as well!

INFORMAL LETTER- Pablo Bernárdez

Hi Pol,
How are things with you? Sorry I haven’t heard from you for ages, I hope everything goes
great!
Did I tell you that I’had started the degree in Veterinary Medicine? Well, that's not important.
I've been thinking and remembering childhood moments. And I've realized that we should
recover our great friendship that we had years ago. And one of the best ways would be
through Facebook.
I know that you are a person who places great importance on privacy and data protection, but
Facebook offers an encryption that prevents our conversations from being read by other
people. In addition, you can set your account private, so that nobody can see your photos or
anything on your profile.
It would be a very good way to get back in touch, that is something I really want. I hope we can
continue this conversation soon on Facebook.
I have to leave you, my sister wants me to help her with the tasks!
Joan

Hi Wander,

How are you,we don’t talk since the last holidays and I want you to join to our Facebook group. I know that you are afraid of expending too much time there or losing your intimacy. That's why i'm writing you, for explain to you the advantages of having a Facebook account and use this incredible app.

Despite it’s true that you reveal your personal information, you don’t lose your intimacy because you decide what you want to share there about you and what not. Moreover there you can talk with your friends easily  and you can make new friends there, this allow you to not lose the human contact, and that’s  great because we are in quarantine and we cannot see other people.

Nevertheless, it’s true that you might expend too much time there but that’s your decision, and you are responsible so I think that it will not be a problem, I hope see you soon on Facebook.

Dear Sarah,
It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you. Where have you been? I hope this letter finds you in the best of spirits. I can't wait to hear from you, I'm looking forward to the day when we can see each other, no more or less than in Sydney.

As summers are approaching, I was thinking about all the things that I will be able to learn there. I’m so excited to visit the Opera House, Bondi Beach and all the incredible places there. How is the weather there? What will I learn from your city? What is the typical food? Will we be able to see whales? And kangaroos?

I’m so glad to have this awesome opportunity and I promise I will take advantage of it. Since I was 9 years old I had the dream to visit Australia and also Tasmania so it will be a dream come true.

Hope to see you soon!

Yours lovingly

Anna

Hi Laura,

What’s up? I was chatting with Emma when I realized that you haven’t joined Facebook yet. She says that is because you’re afraid of losing intimacy and spending too much time of your time on it.
Facebook is very useful in order to be connected with other people and see their photos and videos. But honestly, I think that it's not really necessary. I mean, if you want to talk with somebody you can use many other apps. Also, if you want to see whatever they are doing or they’ve done at summer, you just have to ask them.
About intimacy, I believe that there isn’t any problem as long as you act with responsibility. What I want to say is that you can show whatever you want, it’s your choice, but you have to be aware that everyone can see what you are posting. So, if you are careful with what you post there shouldn’t be a problem.

Hope see you soon,
Mireia.

Hi Robert,

What’s new? I haven’t written for so long, but I’ve just heard that you aren’t going to create a Facebook account because of the stupid idea of losing your privacy.

I don’t think that’s the main problem of using Facebook, the problem is the time you spend watching photos of your friends or talking with them by messenger. But I guarantee you that you are not going to be addicted to this type of app because almost nobody uses it, so I think you are not going to post so many pictures.

I’d recommend you check out another social networks, such as Instagram or tweeter that I think that are more interesting and you will know everything about the news and thinks like that.

Write soon!

Best wishes,

Victor

Hi Tom,

How are you doing? Today I’m gonna explain you the positive things of Facebook and why you should get an account.

To begin with, an important thing about Facebook is that you can get a lot of information about what’s going on around the world. In addition to, people can create events and the users may say if they will attend or not and give their opinions once finished the event.

I know that you are worried about your personal data, due to the quantity of information you have to give. But, even though it looks really unsafe, the security that Facebook provides is really efficient. You just have to configure the account to ‘’only Friends’’ and the problem will be solved.

I hope you understand why those reasons make Facebook a great social network, and I hope to see you on it soon.

See you,

Marc

Hi Steve!
How are you? I hope you’re well. I’m glad to talk with you again. I’m writing to tell you the advantages of having a Facebook account.
Despite the fact that some of your personal data are revealed to Facebook, you don’t lose too much intimacy unless you constantly post your private information, like what you are doing every moment or where do you live.
All the other things about Facebook are good. You can chat with your friends in an easier way than through email and use emoticons which are so funny!
Moreover, posting in your wall is funny too because you share with your friends and family whatever you want at any moment despite they are in their home. But if you want to take this to another level, you can do a live to show what you are doing at that precise moment or just talk with your followers.
Nevertheless, I have to tell you that don’t spend too much time posting or showing what you are doing, it’s better to enjoy what you’re doing without mobiles or any other device.
Best wishes,
David

Dear John,

How are you doing? I’m so excited about explaining you some things about Facebook. I think you’ll love this social network.

First of all, it’s security is incredible.  You can have your Facebook account private and then you choose who can see your publications and who can’t.  In addition, if someone is bothering you, you can block them and report them. It’s all under control.

As for the time you are in the app or web, Facebook has a time counter to advise you if you’re exceeding the recommendable time on line.

Furthermore, it’s useful if you want to see what your friends are doing, you can lay games on line with them, meet new people and you can be entertained if you are confined at home.

By the way, if you finally gets an account, send me a message and I’ll teach you how it works. It would be great to spend time with you in that platform.

Anyway, drop me a line soon and let me know what you think.

Best wishes,

Stan.

INFORMAL LETTER - Emma Ballestero

Dear Sarah,

I hope everything goes great, your life, your family, you.
I am writing to you first of all, to thank you for the invitation, I am very excited to go to Sydney and learn a little about it.

I have been looking online and getting a little informed and I am very surprised to go visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria, visit the beautiful beaches with their whales and kangaroos and go up to the Sydney Tower, but what I am really passionate about is being able to cross the Harbor Bridge; It is the typical place where I have always wanted to be because I always see it in photographs and documentaries and I think it is time to make all this happen.
I hope you teach me much more about Sydney; its culture, its daily life, its most beautiful places, its people...

I am really excited by all this and I hope to have the best days of my life and leave there wanting to want to return. I can’t wait more.
See you early!

Dear Sarah,
Thank you very much for inviting me to your house, I’m really excited about it.
I must say I’m doing a biology master at university about the different environments of the planet, so going to Australia is a huge opportunity!
Actually, I’ve planned a lot of activities we could do there. Firstly, we could go to the Australian desert and go on a safari, so that we’d be able to see the most dangerous creatures in the world. However, I’m not sure your parents will let us, so I’ve got a second option: scuba diving in the Great Reef Barrier; what do you think? It must be stunning! What’s more, we can also do some cultural activities in order to learn about the Australian culture such as going to the famous opera or visiting the indigenous villages.
Just one more thing, which is the best bus to get to your house from the airport?
Well, I’m going to continue with my homework.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Kisses,
Sofia

Dear Sarah,

I’m so glad to hear from you! It’s been so long since we last chatted and I’m so thrilled to visit you and your family!

Let me start by telling you that I really want to learn about the fauna in Australia. I’ve heard that you have some pretty interesting and bizarre creatures there and I’m into that!

Also, doing my research of your country, I found out that you have some ancient culture; I read something about some aboriginal tribes. I wouldn't mind to learn more about it, in fact it could be a great opportunity to learn new things from different societies and that’s always nice.

Lastly… as you might know, this should be an educational trip so I guess I’ll have to get familiar with new language skills. I was thinking of learning some Australian slang, what do you think?

Anyway, I have to go  now however I’ll be waiting for your response!

Best wishes,

Alex

Hi James,
I’m sorry I haven’t written before, but I have been busy these days. Well, I’m writing this because of the conversation we had the last week. I was so surprised to hear that you still don’t have a Facebook account and you don’t want to have it. (Whaaat?!) Don’t worry; I’m here to solve this problem.
First of all, if you join Facebook you will be able to chat with me and other friends wherever you are. So, we could be in contact despite being at home. Also, you can do several things in addition to chat, such as upload your own photos, make questionnaires to know your friends’ opinions…
In addition, with a Facebook account, you can search for breaking news from official pages and be aware of what happens around you without going outside. You can learn things as well. For example, last week I did a fantastic apple pie thanks to a video I saw on Facebook.
If you are worried about the risk of lose your intimacy, stay calm because Facebook has a lot of security against hackers. On the other hand, if you are worried about spending too much time on it, trust me that I will look after you and I will assure that you do your homework before opening Facebook.
Anyway, if you decide to join Facebook tell me immediately and I will help you to surf in this amazing world!
Take care,
Sergio

Hi Sarah,
How have the family been? I hope you’re doing great. I cannot wait to fly to Sydney, I’ve been so excited that I couldn’t help but get my expectations high.

I’d love to do some sightseeing before anything, I’ve been doing some research about the city and I’ve already gotten some buildings and places to eat written in a list. Then, a meal with your family and finally meeting your granny would be great! You’ve told me so much stories about her that I can’t leave Australia without drinking some tea with her and spending a wonderful afternoon with her warm company. Of course, I’m really looking forward to improve my views of Australia and improving my current spoken English.

Anyway, I must go now as I’ve still got some housework to do. Hope to hear from you soon.

Dear Sarah,

How are you? Thank you so much for inviting me, I’m very excited for this experience.

I’m writing to make some suggestions of things I would like to do during my stay at your house, I hope you don’t mind it. However, I know that you’re the one who knows the city so you obviously have the last word as I’m focusing on the typical and famous things everyone does.

They’re just a few, such as visiting the Sydney Opera or the Harbour Bridge. Don’t panic, I also want to do other activities apart from visiting monuments. For example, I would love to make my dream of seeing some whales come true as they’re my favourite animals and to see some kangaroos. In general, I just want to have fun, discover new places, make friends and just enjoy my time there.

Can’t wait to travel to Australia and to have an amazing stay with you and your family.

Hi Sarah,
How are you? I hope you are well. I’m sorry I haven’t written you before, but I was in the exams week, and I was very concentrated in studying to get the best grade. Looking forward to hearing all your news.
This week I have been thinking what I would like to do when I go to Australia. And one of the things which I would more like is to learn about koalas because I love animals and I’ve never gone to Australia before and I know that koalas are typical of there. So, I was wondering if we could go to a zoo in Sydney to see them.
However, I’m writing to thank you for your hospitality, and I’ll really appreciate if you could teach me some more English because next year I want to go to study in Oxford I am sure I’ll need it.
Anyway, I must go and get on with my work! Hope to hear from you soon. Best wishes,

It’s great to hear from you! I’m writing to let you know that I’m thrilled to be coming to Australia next summer, and since you asked, I wanted to enumerate the most important things I’m willing to learn during my stay.

First of all, I expect to improve my English knowledge in as many different ways as possible: get used to a new accent, gain speaking fluency, widen my vocabulary and also learn some of your set phrases and expressions.

As for outdoor activities, I’ve wanted to learn surf for ages. I saw your Instagram videos and you seem very good at it so I would be very happy if you could teach me some of your techniques and tricks.
